Happy Shrove Tuesday

Let them eat (pan) CAKEs. I only learned about Shrove Tuesday this week from our Cohort Sister, Alli. What a great tradition! I have never experienced it in any church I've ever attended (all 2 of them).

What's the history behind the tradition?

Ah the shrove tuesday/fat tuesday/mardi gras story.

Well, essentially back in the day, and I'm too lazy to look up exactly when... people ate pancakes the night before Ash Wednesday to use up the fattening and sugar-y things. Using up the lard and whatnot before a time of fasting was an important thing so that you could resist temptation.
